
Amongst the upper classes conditions are different, and in the houses of these richer folk there is much evidence of Chinese culture in the way of living, in the furnishing of the homes, and in the variety of food and its preparation. For the table there will be rugs on the floors and walls, silk cushions, and again, brightening the rooms, beautiful Chinese embroideries. Tea will be served in silver or fine china cups in silver holders of lotus flower shape, and amongst other delicasies, currants and other fruits, walnuts and peaches, and also twisted rolls of crisp bread fried in oil will be served
